How do people feed families on £40 a week?

What I do is:
- Shop at the cheapest place without compromising on quality (e.g. Aldi, farmer's markets, etc...)
- Buy on sale (food expiring today is still good for consumption)
- Cook all meals from scratch (no buying breakfast or lunch at work)
- Only eat fruits and vegetables that are in season
- Mix high-costs items (e.g. meat) with low-costs items (e.g. rice)
- Buy in bulk and freeze/store (especially items on sale)
- Buy full pieces of meat and cut it yourself (e.g. buy whole chicken and cut it, buy meat and mince it)
