Mobile Phone insurance reclaim

I got offered a months free mobile insurance when i signed up with Virgin Mobile in September 2009 and then did not cancel this. I have therefore then had charges monthly for this insurance whihc relates to a Mobile I have not had for a long time. I am still with Virgin and was wondering if this insurance would automatically switch over to each new phone i have had? If not am I able to reclaim this insurance that i have had to pay as I did not realise I had to cancel the insurance?
