Maginon FS-500 negative and slide scanner - £29.99 at Aldi

Noticed this in the Aldi leaflet last week, picked one up yesterday.

http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/special_buys3_29775.htm

Have seen the same/very similar scanners sold under diffrent brands and they're normally around £50

It was easy to set up and is very simple and quick to use. The quality was fine for the price but I did notice that when scanning slides it does crop out some of the slide which is dissapointing.

Thanks, I would love one of these but is Aldi like Lidl - the only get in a couple of each item and they go immediately? I'm far from Aldi but would love one of these.

I was surprised how small the box/scanner was. They had one of those metal big baskets full of them, at least at our local one.

Like yourself when I went for one I wondered if they would have them in stock as what they have in the shop doesn't always seem match up to the leflet offers in our local store.

If your store doesn't have them, or you'd like an alternative. Here is a link to the one I bought from Maplins. Seems a similar spec and is cheaper.
It is almost identical to the Veho VFS-004. Worked OK for my 2,000 odd slides

Just bought one of these, it was to speed up scanning of 100s of old slides rather than use my flatbed scanner.

Here's with the Maginon (slide scanner)

And here's what it should look like (using my old Epson flat bed)

A picture really painting a few 1.000 words

Also notice how large parts of the image have been cut off.
  • I purchase the Maginon FS500 from Lidles about 6 months ago. I see my local Lidles (Walthamstow) has them again. I have only used it for negative scanning and it works really well. The software is basic and puts the scan into a folder on my PC. From there I can open it is photoshop. It has enabled me to preserve pictures from the distance past. The resolution is good for a £30 device. I haven't tried slides so cant comment on that.
