If I had a pound for each time someone said that to me I'd have about £4.

That's correct or does the OP want us to ignore mortgages and other loans?

Also I am assuming that building societies are classed as banks as far as the poll goes?

My vote is based on my savings vs my mortgage... in short I have no money in the bank as I owe them more than I have in 'savings'.

All of the "money" I have with the bank is in offset accounts against my mortgage- so I manage to get by with no savings at all, whilst still retaining part of my mortgage debt in a highly liquid form.

P.S. Actually quite a frightening thought, that whenever I use my debit card in a supermarket, I'm merely increasing my net indebtedness to the bank.

P.P.S. Then it occurs to me that this is what people do whenever they use one of those strange things called a "credit card"...
