I have recently found out about the following:
Auto-Credits For Men
Since April 1983, men with no liability to play Class 1 or 2 NI contributions, have been credited automatically for the tax year they reach 60 and the four following years, provided they are not absent from the UK for morethan six months.
These Auto-Credits for men will be phased out between April 2010 andApril 2019 in accordance with the following table. The proposal to extend theAuto-Credits scheme to women has been rescinded.
Date of Birth
Auto-Credit Entitlement
On or before 5 Oct 1950
5 years
6 Oct 1950 to 5 Oct 1951
4 years
6 Oct 1951 to 5 Oct 1952
3 years
6 Oct 1952 to 5 Oct 1953
2 years
6 Oct 1953 to 5 Oct 1954
1 year
On and after 6 Oct 1954
Nil
You cannot get automatic credits for any tax year when:
· you spend more than 182 days outside the UK;
· you have to pay National Insurance contributions as an employed or self-employed person; or
· you are entitled to another credit, for example Incapacity Benefit or Employment and Support Allowance.
I would qualify for 2 years auto credit and wonder if that would have any effect on my state pension under the proposed new scheme. I ask this because all my N.I. conts were contracted out and I understand that any additional pension would be clawed back due to being contacted out.
I just wonder if these two years would benefit me as they would not be ontracted out.
Any ideas?

Not sure abut the contracted out aspect.
Under existing rules for a full pension entitlement you need 30 years NI
Under proposed rules it is proposed to raise this to 35years
I was paying voluntary contributions but stopped when the 30 year rule was adopted. At that time I had 32 years so auto credits would save me having to make up the 3 year if the requirement is raised to 35 years. I'm not sure how anyone who is going to reach pension age in this transitional phase is supposed to work out what they need to do.0 -
Can I get Auto NI credit if I get my Pension Credit from 6th November 2013? As I will be qualified for pension credit since 6th Nov 2013. Please reply and how can I confirm that I will be given NI credit?
Job centre plus leaflet under the heading National insurance dated 2010, on page number 16, it states that men born before 5th Oct 1954 qualify for auto NI credit. When I met them they are not in a position to give details on it or be able to confirm.
