Ebay and feedback - question

Options
Hi,

Does anyone know what happens with ebay and negative feedback? Does the negative feedback stay forever or does it drop it drop off after a year?

I've been buying/selling on ebay for years and had 100% feedback until a bad experience with a seller in May last year. She sold an item as new with tags but it was not new and has stains. She turned very nasty and I had to go through ebay to return the item and get a refund. As the experience was so awful, I did leave negative feedback for the seller. She then bought an item from me just so she could leave me negative feedback. Yes, really! Although I contacted ebay they didn't help and the negative feedback has stayed.

As the year will be up in May since she ruined the feedback, I wondered if that feedback will then go and 100% rating will be restored, or not? I guess I'm wondering if I should open a new account, as in over 1000 transactions I'd had no problems until I encountered that psycho seller.

If anyone has any knowledge about this I'd be grateful :)

Unfortunately the feedback stays forever. You can reply to feedback though which does help you get your side across. I have recently received a neutral feedback saying my item 'stank of stale cigarettes' - no idea how as we don't smoke! Very bad feedback since I sell a lot of used baby clothes etc. but all I could do was leave a reply to it saying we don't smoke. 1 negative vs 1000 positive shouldn't hinder you too much though and especially with it being so old, people do buy from sellers with a lot of negatives, it seems a lot of people don't actually pay much attention to it (although I admit I do).

  • Your feedback score is important and it reflects your reputation as a seller. eBay does remove feedback in cases when the feedback rules were broken. You actually have a few options when you are concerned about any feedback given to you by another member. You can do any of the ff depending on the situation - respond to the feedback you received, ask a buyer to change the Feedback they left for you, or ask eBay to remove Feedback due to a Feedback violation. Hope this helps. :)

Feedback remains but only affects your account for a year.

It will return to 100% and any low stars will drop off in May.
