looking for some advice, after being made redundant in Nov 11 and not being able to get work debt grew etc went LILA bankrupt in Nov 12. My other half is working but we are still really struggling financially he has a DAP set up for paying his debt back, I was thinking about looking for part time work as family can now help with childcare, but the advice from the woman at cab was to wait until the bankruptcy was discharged, as working during it I will have to make contributions for 3 years, I accept that the debt was mine in the first place and would not object to paying a contribution however she indicated that it would probably be a high amount and there for not worth working!
I am really struggling being stuck in all the time and having no money to do anything with the kids and really just want to try and help improve our situation. any advice??

Technically it isn't worth working as you won't get any more money than you do now. So now you have all this time on your hands why don't you do a course to enhance your employability prospects once your BR period is over. You could earn even more money later than you could earn now.
If you are really struggling how about posting a SOA on the debt free wannabe board. You technically should be able to get by on what you get. It won't allow you to get out much but they might find something that could be reduced. Do you get all the benefits you are entitled to? Gas/Electric is a fairly easy one compare and switch and turn the temperature down a little. Groceries...go a brand down, reduce waste, home cook everything.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

boo! I thought as much, I just think I might have felt better if i was making a contribution to our household, I have done all the down branding etc my weekly shop for 2 adults and 2 kids is £70 (one still in nappies), Our outgoings have been quite high in the last couple of weeks are we are having to move house next week hopefully once we have actually moved things might settle a bit the rent is cheaper but council tax higher so that will end up being the same spent.
I have looked in to doing a course but most don't start until Sep, I have applied for one so far (will looking and see if I can find any starting sooner).
when in theory could I go back to work bankruptcy was declared on 18 Nov could I start work just after that date or do I have to wait until its all paper work etc completed I cant find any info regarding this!
thanks for your advice0 -
