Your firewood/logs bargains

Options
Managed to find a source for whisky barrel lids for burning in my stove.All american white oak with Jack Daniels/Jim Beam stamps etc on them with the date of storage.
Need to collect them and cut them up but not too bad for £10:j
12 panels south facing,8 panels south-east facing,4KWP system,pitch 40 degrees,Aurora inverter & location is sunny Glasgow.

    Found a place which gives away pallets. Have to collect them and cut them up but the free bit is good, and if I had a car the collection would be no problem. As it is carry one home with lots of rests every now and then. Also occasionally see pallets put outside local shops, and shop owners are happy for me to take them.
    Not as romantic as bourbon barrel lids but easy to saw up with a little electric saw and burns really well.

    That's great but you may do better to sell them on e-bay anything with Jack Daniels and Jim Beam on is of interest to the "Brewer Collecting Brigade".....it's worth a try :)

    Freecycle / freegle can be good for wood.

    I got a load of soft wood off-cuts (10 x 1 tonne bags full) for free from a builder. It filled our 4x4 and the trailer. He didn't have to pay for the wood to be tipped and we got a few months of free (if somewhat spitty) fires out of it.
