Thoughts on false hair

The other day I was out with my friend and saw this stall selling hair extensions etc, the chap there seemed to know his stuff and he said a ponytail would be better on my fine hair than the clip in extensions that could pull at my own hair and make it worse. He tried one on me and it looked really good.

However, when I mentioned it to my boyfriend he said that having false hair is like having false teeth and taking it off before you go to bed and he doesn't think its natural so its put me off, but I thought it might be a good idea to use one until my hair grows how I want it.

What do others here think of false hair?

  • I always think that anything like that - clip-ons, false eyelashes, etc - leaves you worrying that it might suddenly 'go wrong'. i.e. the clip-on extensions fall out, or the fake eyelashes drop off and so on. However, if they're reasonably priced what have you got to loose by trying them? :-)

I don't personally like them for anything except an occasional night out but then my hair colour is a million miles from being natural so who am I to say? :p AFAIK all hair extensions are damaging if used too frequently, even the clip on ponytails.

I'd say why not, you don't have to wear it all the time.

I'm afraid my only foray into false hair was when I had proper hair extensions put in after a disastrous haircut many years ago. They weren't really suited to my hair type though and they didn't last long, they just started slipping out after a few days, so I wouldn't recommend that type of false hair unless you've got afro hair or something for the extensions to 'grip' to.

I used clip in extensions until my hair grew to the length I wanted, painless and easy, no need to suffer these days :) if someone else doesnt like it and you do then tell them where to go, bet they dont go anywhere ;)

  • Is it real hair or synthetic? If its real, I would do a lot of research to find out if it was ethical or not. Unethical hair extensions can come from girls in extreme poverty forced to sell thier hair, prisons or even dead people. Ethical hair usually comes from nuns who sell their hair for the cause. I thought about extensions but these findings put me off . . . .

Yes well said:T, I didnt think anyone even used real hair these days, you can buy excellent synthetic hair, even a type that can be heat styled and its much much more :money:for those who still use or are thinking about using human hair extensions google the BBC Jamelia documentary on where the human (remy) hair for extensions comes from :(

I wear extensions sometimes as I have very fine hair. I just don't have them long as then they look fake. A few girls in my course (makeup and hair) wear clip in ponytails as we have to have hair up. Its a real quick fix and looks great.

Wouldn't listen to your boyfriend fellas haven't got a clue lol. They always say the wrong thing. All the celebs have extensions as long as they look natural think its fine.

You might want to get the clip in pony from the guy you talked to but here is a link to an amazing clip in pony and its synthetic but looks so real and its gorgeous. A fancy shop in my city use them and loads of pics online of them in peoples hair and they look amazing. They also do like clip in hair pieces that synthetic.

If you wanted to go down the full hair extension route what about Halo hair extensions as its not clip in so doesn't damage.

Don't use them personally but I have quite long hair anyway so don't really need them. If you want them and think it looks good then go for it. As for your boyfriend - really? Does he think everyone is 100% natural all the time - no one ever wears makeup, or tummy pants, or false eyelashes, or shaves for that matter? We do things every day to try and improve the way we look - I don't see the difference.

I bought some for my girlfriend who loved them, because her hair doesn't really grow that fast. The only thing I would say is try to buy some that are made of human hair, rather than synthetic as they are easier to look after and she says that they last for longer. Hope this helps.
