Gone away marked on credit file even tho Ive lived at my address for 7 years!!!

Hello all,

I had a defaulted account from 2008 that I have recently cleared. Since then, instead of marking my accoutn satisfied on equifax, they have marked it as gone away with a note saying I have moved and not left them a new address.

They sent a letter saying the account was settled to the address that I have always had!

This seems slightly unfair as I have cleared the debt. Can they do this seen as it is not accurate? How would I go about disputing it? I called them and got nowhere!!

Thanks in advance for any replies!

You can challenge this as the info is not correct & may affect future credit applications.

You need to send them a written complaint stating why this is wrong.

No reply after 8 weeks or no satisfactory resolution and you can refer to FOS.

Presumably the default date is reasonably correct?

  • Yeah the default date correct. My address hasn't changed since i took the account out to when i settled in full last month.

So would i just write to them saying this?

    Thanks

Yes. Obviously you haven't gone away as you paid it :). Basically ask them to correct the entry. Include any relevant dates and maybe a print out of the entry from your report if you can.

  • Getting know where with this..

Equifax contacted them on my behalf. Reply was that the info won't be getting changed as its correct. I now have 7 days to contact Equifax if i don't think this is resolved..

Im not disputing default, just the gone away without leaving address as i haven't moved.

Where should i go from here :-(

You should take it to the Information Commissioner's Office.

More subtly, you could reply to Equifax attaching a photocopy of their letter to you with your address highlighted and ask them how the information could be right, if you have received the letter. But whether anyone with 2 braincells to rub together would actually get the point and do anything is another question.

It is indicative that the Credit Referencing Agencies are out of control.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

as ValHaller says, equifax will have just contacted them to say you are querying it, they would have said its correct and equifax would have said ok. Cos that way they don't have to do any actual work or thinking and lots of people would just accept that.

I have sent an email directly to apex saying...

    Dear sir/ madam,
I am writing in relation to the above account. I had made an agreement to pay the outstanding balance at a rate of £20 per month and received written confirmation of this from yourselves in a letter dated 27th February 2013.

I cleared this balance early on 20th March 2013, my payment reference was 710842863. I was pleased to see that my credit file had been updated to reflect the balance as satisfied, however can not understand why you have marked my file as 'GONE AWAY'.

I have lived at my address for almost 7 years and have the letter you sent me on 27th February to the same address.
I have queried this through yourselves with equifax and have been told that you will not be removing the information as I did default on the account. I am not querying if I defaulted as I am well aware that I did, however I feel that the 'GONE AWAY' marker should be removed as it is innacurate.

I spoke to an advisor on the phone who stated it would be removed when my file updated in March. It was updated 21/03/2013 and still shows as 'GONE AWAY'. Can you please advise why this is not being removed?

    ....

Hope it gets a reply, cant believe they have waited until I have paid them in full to do this!!
