Bread maker or Shop bought???

I'm another who gave up on my breadmaker because it was more effort and gave worse results than making by hand.
The basic tin loaf I usually make takes 15 minutes to prepare and knead, rises once and then has to be placed in the oven and taken out. The washing up is less than for the breadmaker - a bowl and a loaf tin are easier than the bowl and paddle - and you dont get the hole in the bottom of the loaf.0 -
Would you be willing to share the recipe by any chance?

There you go. I generally use 50/50 Strong Canadian White and Allinson White with Seeds and Grains.
Works well if you substitute chopped sundried tomatoes and chopped olives (in olive oil) for the olive oil.
Always works. Always gives a good loaf. DS1 did it without instruction and also got a great loaf.
May not be the most exciting loaf to look at but it tastes good.0 -

Thank you! I've never seen honey in a bread recipe before - you dont find it makes it taste sweet?XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX:wave:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 -
I've just made a load of bagels in the bread maker (the dough obvs. needed shaping by hand). Sooo delicious, not at all like the polystyrene supermarket ones, and only used about 30p of flour.Save £12k in 2022 thread #7:

I'm another one for the breadmaker (mine is Panasonic that was a super offer mentioned on the Grabbit board).
This weekend we have had two fresh "ciabata" loaves which have been stunning. The mix was 50p from Morrison's on promotion, so 25p for a gorgeous loaf of bread - doesn't taste or look like ciabata, but lovely.
I realise it's not as good as "real" homemade, but for me it's so much easier to open half a packet of mix, stick in some water and olive oil (for this mix), and leave it for 2 hours.
I'm very happy with my panny.0 -
We have a Pani and swear by it.
Our's is not all that money saving as we seem to make bread for most of the familyI used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
my panny BM is great. I make 3-4 loaves a week for the family.
I wake up at 6am for work. bung the contents in and set it going. its done for the time the wife and kids want breakfast and there is enough to make my work lunch too.
the bread is great quality and it tastes so much nicer than shop made stuff.

This is an interesting post. I was at the local tip a couple of weeks ago and the bloke in the next car asked me if I wanted a virtually brand new BM as he was going to throw it away  Of course I said yes! I used to make loaves in my old BM many years ago but I stopped because my kids were eating more bread than I could make lol!
Anyway....after reading this post I think I might actually give my 'new' bread maker a whirl. The kids are older and dont eat as much bread as they used to and I LOVE the taste of fresh HM bread.
