Npower Bill (Don't understand it!)

Hi all,

I am quite sure I am on a fixed deal with Npower and have been paying a Direct Debit every month for £35.

However I have just received a bill online saying-

Account Balance £135
Your new payment has been calculated as £70

Does this mean my DD payment has doubled?! I know it's still not that expensive compared to some but still... Also as I said I thought I was fixed!

I get bills online every six months and haven't sent a meter reading in for a couple of months.

Obviously I will call them but my question is does this look like my new monthly payment will be £70 or is it a one off?! Really don't need this!

Thanks

DD are variable. They have increased the payment as their system has calculated that your current payment will not cover the energy you are using so it has been in creased accordingly.

Entering meter readings more frequently will help them get a better idea of your usage.

The rate per kWh is fixed not the monthly direct debit amount.

Are you sure your rate is still fixed they don't normally last too long before reverting to the more expensive standard rate.

Ok, I was actually thinking of switching anyway as I have been with them 3 years. Do I have to pay the £135 bill up front to switch?

Three years....it's unlikely it's still fixed. Does the bill state the tariff anywhere on it?

Do a comparison online. Yes you have to pay the £135 but if you switch today then it's unikely they will block your switch and you can then pay the outstanding amount in instalments.

Ok so tomorrow I will do a meter reading for both Elec n Gas, we live in a new build flat so we have to borrow a key off the neighbour to read them!

Once i have the numbers is it easy to do a comparison? I have never used a site to do that, only ever used cashback sites.... Thanks for your help

All you need is your annual kWh consumption figure and your postcode-it takes less than a minute. Then switch via a cashback site.
On a fixed tariff, the unit cost is fixed, not the total cost. if you double your usage, you pay twice as much. It's not like an 'all you can eat for a tenner' buffet.

You need the actual numbers for the last year. Not Direct Debit estimates.

So once you have read your meters, look at your bills, actual usage and work out your yearly usage for gas and electric:)

Then use the comparison sites to give you an idea on what is available.

Then look at cash back sites for any deals that may be available/suit you:)

And get your own key made!
