I'd like one, but I cannot afford to buy a expensive one.
I've seen some for around £40 - does anyone have any experience of them please?
Thanks

hi,
we have a cookworks breadmaker. it was donated from a friend. it works fine. i mainly use it on the dough setting as i like to make a big batch of dough and split it up for bread rolls or 2 mini loaves. i have used the normal setting a few times.
the only downside i've experienced is sometimes the paddle gets stuck in the dough, so if you leave it and go out expecting to come home to cooked bread you could be disappointed as you need to press start again to get it going if it stops mid cycle
hope this helps0 -
We had a cheapy Argos own brand one for Christmas a few years ago and is used regularly -- it is fantastic.
I use it for loaves and on the basic dough setting for when I make rolls, naan breads or pizza dough.0 -
We LOVE ours, about £40 from Argos (Cookworks). We use it at least once a week. We've tried nearly all the bread types...walnut and raisin is a fave. Takes ages to cook about 3 hours so sometimes I hand bake but often if at home I stick the ingredients in and forget about it.
We've made: jam, cakes, bread and pizza dough in ours and the pizza dough is some of the best I've ever had : ).
Well worth it if trying to replace store bought bread...we've not bought a store loaf since Christmas!Married in 2016. Bought our first home in 2017. Expecting our first baby in November 2017
Frugal & thrifty as much as possible.0 -
We have a Morphy Richards BM, cost us just under £40 about a year ago, recommended by our DD1. Brilliant little machine, although we've only used it for loaves so far. Much as I'd like to make my own by hand, it's not particularly convenient, as we need bread for lunchtime, and are out all morning.0

I bought one of the Cookworks bm from Argos, 3 weeks ago, and am still making a loaf a day in it, not always for us to eat, but for work colleagues too, as the bread is so tasty.
I'm really pleased with the bread it makes. I did try a couple of the loaf recipe in the booklet that comes with the bm, but was disappointed with the quality and texture, so I looked for a different recipe on line and found a perfect brown bread one, that is exactly the same as you would buy in the shop.
If you are looking to make soft white fluffy bread in a bm, I'm not sure you can, the ones I've tried have all turned out a bit 'cake like'.
I can't make bread buy hand, as I have issues with co-ordination, and circulation in my hands, so the bm was my only option.
Yes the paddle does get stuck in the cooked loaf of the Cookwords bm, but it is easy enough to get it out, and we are not bothered about a smallish hole in the bottom of the bread.
Also the actual bm was bigger than I though it would be. I buy all my bread flour/yeast from Lidl/Aldi, not the big brand products, and the bread is really tasty.
Have a read of the review here (also gives the recipe for the brown bread, I now make). I found it really helpful in making me decide to get a cheap bm.2016 is the year I am going to find time for me, and cherish the time I spend with my friends and family. It is also time to save - Aim £4,000 - So far this year - £230/£4,0000
