    yes insurance and servicing will be higher,however road tax is the same.

    I understand your points and I think it makes sense about not spending the net annual salary on a car.

    What car would you advise that can be bought as new but can be affordable and at the same time give good mileage?

    I've thought of a renault clio or citroen, both seem to be good.

    A bog standard Citroen C1 should meet your financial capabilities. If you can't make up a 50% deposit then you are financially !!!!ed. If you can only achieve a £1/2k deposit then you clearly have no ability to save and that's before your new loan repayments.
