RE: Default Removal (Due to bank charges).

Hi All,

First of all, I apologise as you would have possibly seen many questions like this and I have searched the forum yet I can't find anything similar to my predicament.

I have held a debit account with Santander since late 2011 which was rarely used as I intended to switch from Barclays. I tested the card out by making a payment online and didn't realise I had a short fall in the account which Santander decided to cover making me I believe £12 over drawn.

I have checked recently with creditexpert.co.uk who have advised of a default on my account due to this. In Feb 2012 Santander show that I am £12 in debt. Santander failed to advise of this for a matter of months until I received a letter. At this time I was pretty much single handedly paying for a funeral and had little income for a while after. In June 2012 the total showed £541 and in October I agreed to start making payment towards this debt and Feb 2012 this debt was completely cleared.

I also never received any notice of default from Santander so have only became aware of the default recently. I also never received an offer of a waiver no matter how much I argued with them (Which some offers seem to be offered in part or full).

Ideal I'd like the default removed and I am not worried about recovering fee's as the default is a much bigger worry as I am now able to consider a mortgage after fighting my way into a much better position.

Any advice/assistance would be much appreciated.

in the first place, you 'tested' the account but didn't check the status of the account for months? in all honesty this is not their fault.

and let me get this straight...although without exact dates it's a little hard to give precise comment:

    1) you opened the account in late 2011 and made the test payment and then forgot the account (until June 2012 in fact...and you said you were going to close it and change to Barclaycard)?

    2) Santander show you £12 in debt in Feb 2012

    3) in June 2012 (4 months later) you received a letter about the debt and checked and it was £541

    4) you finally agreed to pay them back in Oct 2012 and cleared it in Feb 2013 ( i assume '2012' was a typo)

so you knew in June that you had the debt. there really isn't THAT much delay in their dealings with you. if they'd been chasing you in March you would've said they were hassling you unduly.

why didn't you arrange to pay them when you saw the debt in June instead of 4 months later?

in conclusion (looked at from their perspective), i highly doubt they will remove the default as it's valid.
