Really old ccjs and mortgage applications

I had someone ask me a question yesterday that I had no idea about. Say someone had a ccj from 10 years ago, unpaid, from what I understand it would have dropped off their credit file years ago. If he applied for a loan or a mortgage with it still unpaid, is there anyway the mortgage provider could find out about it?

I had an unpaid CCJ from about 10 years ago and I have recently got a mortgage.
If you are ask to delar it on the application form then you would have to tell them.0 -
Yeah thats what he asked. He's already put in an application (I don't know where) and it asked him about adverse credit history and he didn't declare it. I think he's starting to feel guilty and worried about it now. I guess thats why he wanted to know. Silly boy. Is there anyway for his mortgage provider to find out about it, does anyone know?0

As long as he doesn't apply to part of the same group he owed the money to, he should be alright.
For example, CCJ by Lloyds, applies to Halifax for mortgage. Even then, the record may not be matched up.I am a mortgage broker. Hmm I guess it would be helpful to know then who the debt was with and who he's applied to. I'm guessing after all this time (change of addresses, the debt being sold on etc) even if it is with the same group he might be fine anyway?0
