Pension Question

I am asking this question on behalf of my parents
Basically my parents are pensioners, both 72, my dads pension is around £500 per month, now this pension hits his bank account, then goes out of his bank account to pay the council for his rent ? Surely he should get benefits to help with housing benefit ? they are saying he isn't entitled to any help.
Thanks

Does he and/or your mum have savings? There is a cut-off level for benefits as they are means tested.0

It will also depend on what other money they have coming in, you only mention Dad's pension.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0

You need to look at total household income.
Does your father have both state pension and private pension?
Does your mother?
Does he have savings?

Have a go with the government's benefits estimator.

Thanks for the r eplies,
No savings and no private pension, mother gets a state pension also, no other income0 -
Use the benefits adviser linked above.
You'll need to know savings amounts, pension amounts, rent, council tax and I think the Local Housing Allowance rate which you can get from here:
