If Halifax still own the account, send them a complaint, in writing, signed for.

Complain that they are breaking the OFT rules as Fatbelly says. Tell them that should they do this again they will be reported to the OFT.

Other companies use a similar approach, but tend to back off when threatened with the above, in my experience.

Its usually the 'using field agents to re-establish contact' drivel. They just use it to scare people.

Sorry to join late, but I have just received a couple of telephone messages and a 'hand delivered' (dated 5th August) letter from nciuk. I've been away from home a lot over the last couple of months and it's taken a while for me and my post to get together;) I have also received a letter from Halifax which says that I will be charged £100 for each 'home visit' made by these people. I have fallen into arrears because of being away from home. I can clear the debt as soon as I can get to the (a different) bank on Monday. Do I have to keep the appointment the nci woman insisted on? She told me she was NOT a debt collector and that she was instructed by the back to help me manage my money "like the CAB" and needed to see proof of income and outgoings etc. In panic, 'cause I thought she was basically a debt collector and didn't want to p!ss her off, I left it that if I got (temp) work I would call her to cancel our appointment. Given time I looked her company up on the website and even wh
  • OK, weird posting a reply to myself, but also realised when checking up on the company that she said she is licensed by the FSA. Unless she means the Food Standards Authority, that means she is claiming to be licensed by a quasi-judicial group which has not existed since 1st April. Does FSA licensing still exist? Again, any advice please... ? Thanks all x

Send the a complaint, in writing refusing permission to visit you and to deal in writing only. Insist they refund the charges for the visits you never agreed to. This will help:

As for FSA, probably not updated letters etc yet

Never, ever, ever invite these people in to your home, they have no more power than you or I do, don't answer there calls, if they turn up at your door tell them you refuse to speak to them and do not conduct business on the doorstep or in your home, I echo the points made above, write to the creditor removing there right to implied access, stating you will only deal with the matter in writing and that as you never agreed to them visiting your home they cannot charge you, and if they do charge you inform them you will report them to the OFT and the financial ombudsman service for breach of policy, don't pay the £100 charge, refuse point blank, it makes my blood boil when these companies stick on charges like this at £100 at time, stand up for your rights and don't be bullied into playing the game by there rules, stick to your guns and good luck.
