From debt to BR in 6 working days

to the lady and gent who just PMd me in answer to your hints that I was looking for an easy way to avoid paying my bills and that I should get off my butt and get a job ..here's my answer..
I have applied for over 1000 jobs yes 1000 if it was a job I'd apply from it , I have applied to most parts of the country, have copies of all the decent companies that replied saying sorry vacancy filled etc.
I was not responsible for my previous employer going to the wall the tax man did it to them over a huge tax bill that they wouldn't negotiate with said previous employer, that's what's been told to all ex employees ..
I have worked every day since I was 16, paid my taxes and NI contributions for 40 years till 4 months ago, so yes I do feel a sense of entitlement, my £71 per week JSA has been paid for by 40 years of hard graft and not in some soft job either, it makes my blood boil when you snook in via PM and attacked me without knowing my full story..don't judge people's posts on here until you know there full story, ask them in a PM, you obviously know how a PM works so use it to ask there circumstances and not to attack them.
I'm pretty much a strong person but events ie bedroom tax life redundancy has made me feel pretty vulnerable recently and this BR board and other boards on the forum have helped me so all I'm saying is ask before you make a comment, I would have answered you in an open forum as honestly as I could.
And yes I have turned from a sweet 57 year old lady into one that's ratty and fed up of bieng made to feel that I have committed some crime for daring to be unemployed and asking for some financial help till I get another job, any job,.
Sorry for the rant, I'm fed up of folk thinking BR is an easy way out of debt, it is not, so try to walk in the persons shoes instead of chucking verbals at them.0 -
Hi NSGW, Well said. No one knows what has gone on before BR, the stress, sleepless months/years etc.
Not one person sets out to go Bankrupt and the woman that pm you should remember THERE BUT FOR THE GRACE OF GOD. I too am in your position of applying for job after job with often no interview let alone a reply, so again i say WELL SAID :T
Good luck with your job search

Thanks my number was just about to delete my rants post:rotfl: but it was written how I feel so is stays unless removed by moderators.
Good luck in your job hunt, it's hard, and disillusioning, I applied to clean the loos at local garden centre part time, didn't get it,gent who advertised the job said he had over 80 applicants, last year nobody would have applied:eek::eek:
So today's application number six of them, thankfully a local job charity pays my postage and I do too while I can still afford too.
I'm thinking once my BR journey is over that I'd like to volunteer in a debt advice place or even train in that area, bieng in debt has opened my once rose tinted eyes wide wide open:cool: and realising how comforting an understanding person just listening can be, that person can make the world such a pleasant place in debt free/BR journeys.
Maybe my skills might have some use in that field:D0 -
I know my age plays a bit into not getting a look in with jobs, but i think im only 54 lots to give, even ran my own business for 6 yrs. You are right to think on the volenteering route, i do at a local charity shop 3 afternoons a week, if i didnt have that i think i would start to pull my hair out. I have lost count of the jobs i have applied for, most of which you dont even get a reply for. For the lady who likes to lurk in the shadows and not speak openly, insted of pming negative comments go back and read ops post to find out what led to the BR and then thank god its not you.
This is a great forum with people that go way out of their way to help others in a very distressing period of their life, there will always be a few negative people.

Please make sure you report any horrible PM's to the MSE bods. It is a cowardly act from despicable people who have no idea what real life can throw at you. There for the Grace...BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0

Hi,
I agree with tigerfeet - always report such actions.
Back to your earlier thoughts with council tax and the April senario. Council tax works in a different way. If you go BR, then any missed instalments in the curent year are included in the BR, the remainder of the year remains payable - unless-
You have had a final demand or liability order for that year - in which case the whole years c/tax becomes due and the 'future instalments' would be part of the BR, rather like water except in the water case none of this needs to happen.
Technically, in c/tax, you only have to have missed the 2nd instalment plus 7 days for the whole amount to become due, but I have seen folk have problems with that - waiting for the final demand is much safer.

Yes they say age shouldn't be a barrier to work but it is, I was looking forward to retiring at 60 but yet again the powers that be moved the goal posts so its December 2022 before I can get my pension
Keep applying, the Prime Minister and Jobcentre reckon there are jobs out there so lets keep the search going....
Some have told me at my interview I'm too over qualified for the job I'm applying for and would leave if something better came along, so I'm seriously considering becoming a very very mature student and going to Uni....there's life left in this old dame yet.
Debt Doctor
Thank you for clarifying my council tax query so it's a 20% contribution I have to pay so that's that then but am going to do the water rates scenario and will fight my corner if needs be.
Ok will go print of my BR papers and start filling them in, and post a SOA and see if the more seasoned DFWs and BRs can help me trim it down a bit more...:D
Thank you all for your help and the support the last couple of days it has been much appreciated.0 -
forget what people are saying, your ex hubby went BR, so you get dumped with the debt. he didnt care, so why should you, go BR, let the house get repo, start your life again, debt free, i see to many people struggle to pay off there debt and have nothing in life, and do this for 20 years,
Go BR and start your life again,0 -
Lou 76 thanks.......:D:D
Right to get myself motivated I have printed off the BR forms, going to do a rough draft, have actually all my debt paperwork on the table in date order etc...now for me that's some achievement..have my pens and pads ready so off we go .....will do the form filling this evening and all day tommorow....
Weathers rotton here, thank goodness for reading about having a stock cupboard it's proving useful not worrying about running out of food etc. I'm 2 miles from nearest bus stop and no car getting to the shops isn't easy.
I've had a sorry no job back from an application:o: one the jobcentre ahem suggested I try ........office junior in a double glazing firm.....I'm 57 and have the qualifications, so I rang double glazing firm for some feedback and asked for an honest evaluation of why I did not get the job, that's another Jobcentre suggestion to help hone my skills on applying for jobs.
Manager said I did not fit the criteria.. ( evasive speak methinks for age lol) but after a few laughs with him he did say my application made him smile..the job had 74 applicants and the Jobcentre sent him an interview person who had his fingers amputated as a window fitter, a man who had the shakes from drinking to work in the glazing dept and the best one a non driver as a van driver.......:rotfl: he said he and other local employers think the Jobcentre do it as a joke....it's not a joke to the applicants..ah well he wished me well in my job apps and said there may be a vacancy coming up in the office soon and would bear me in mind...so maybe just maybe...not holding my breathe though..
Snows coming down again, now need to go and sort out actual amounts of my debts. then get started..hope your all keeping well....0 -
Tssst cough cough.
Tis a thread re my BR to be journey not a place to dig up old disputes, I'm not taking sides or anything just saying I've already had one lady and gent say there piece about my BR etc, I welcome anyone to comment...but please keep to the subject......
Gosh I sound like a miserable old fart, I'm not but I'd like this thread to be free from everyone taking digs at each other etc.....
Braved the snow earlier got 300 yards down the road to be met by a car in the ditch, helped the lady out and returned to mine with her in tow to phone her hubby to come get the car sorted and to fetch her.
She lives right down the end of my road, so wasn't the most pleasant of ways to meet a new neighbour but she seems nice, her hubby has collected her he seems ok, so maybe have met another local..
Am stuck in then :rotfl: thank goodness it's starting to melt...
Ok folkies. I'm away to make a cake0
