Dunno! You know more about what cooking goes on and how much meat is eaten in your house. I'd say that would last about three months minimum around here0

Thanks, I have never bought meat in bulk before and have a mental block on what to do with it to get the maximum meals.September GC 30th aug-4th Oct £332.74/£375 NSD 3

It's not just the initial roast/cook that extracts the maximum number of meals but calculating portion-sizes and what to do with the leftovers. I'd say that 100 grammes per serving would be a sensible rough guide but every family is different.0

I don't know about three months - but if you get rid of the 'fancy wording' it doesn't actually amount to all that much 'meat'.
1 Rack of Lamb (1.5lbs)
4lbs (?) Casserole Steak
2lbs Steak Mince
1lb Smoked Bacon
1 Large chicken (4lbs)
6 Thick Sausages (1.5lbs)
2 Large pork chops (1.1lbs)
I'm sure it's all very good quality meat, but I'd be wanting better vfm for my hard-earned.
In essence, you're a family of 4 adults - how far do you think it would go .................0 -
1 x 7 Rib Lamb Rack 700g (1.5lb) - 1 meal just about, that's 2 ribs for 3 of you and 1 for the other.
2 x Free Range Native Breed Casserole Steak 1kg (2.2lb) - Is this 2 x 1kg or 1 kg in total? I would get 2 meals out of 1kg,
1 x Free Range British Beef Steak Mince 500g (1.1lb) - 4 meals, possibly 5
12 x Greaves Handcut Streaky Bacon Smoked 492g (1.1lb) 1 meal, it's only 3 rashers each
1 x Yorkshire Free Range Herb Fed Chicken 1.8kg (4.0lb), 2 meals max for me, but I know others would get a lot more
6 x Jeff Bakers Diamond Jubilee Sausages 660g (1.5lb), 1 meal, just about, not even 2 sausages each.
2 x Robert Greaves Prime 14 Day Hung Pork Chops 500g (1.1lb) 2 meals if cut up for stir fry or the like.
That would probably last a month, but would need topping up. You've only got 2 roasts, you've got a mince meal every week, a stew meal for two weeks, a stir fry meal 2 weeks and a sausage/bacon meal for 2 weeks, so really 3 meat meals a week for a month, what would you have the other 4 nights?

I think it will only be nine-eleven meals and you would be far better off going to a market.0

Thanks for all your help, Really not that many meals then, Will need to try to find a market then.
I live in clackmannanshire and the markets aren't up to much.September GC 30th aug-4th Oct £332.74/£375 NSD 3

We go to a catering butcher which isnt the cheapest but the taste is wonderful and I could get this for less than £35.00
Have to agree that it wouldnt feed a family of four for much more than 12 meals and thats if you are not big meat eaters.
From a market or even the super market I would expect to pay considerably less than this. Bear in mind most supermarkets sell 3 lots of certain meat items for £10.00 and some of them do 4 lots for £12 (or they did last time I brought meat from one not too long ago)
However if it is already ordered then its too late but I would certainly look around a bit for next time.MARCH £62.38/2500 -

You can often get 1.5 kilo free range chickens knocked down in price to around £4, so that you can roast them on the day (or cut them up and slow cook them for stews, marinate the breasts in spice, garlic and yoghurt for chicken tikka).
The rack of lamb is what I would call a "luxury" item, and it will struggle to feed 4 people.
There are only two of us, but we use 400g of beef mince to make chilli con carne, and it does 6 - 8 servings. You could also use mince in cottage pie, lasagne or bolognese sauce.
Many supermarkets reduce their legs of lamb to around £12, and if you take the meat off the bone, it is brilliant in stews and curries, and will go a long way.
Braising steak (or beef skirt or shin) should be cheap in butchers, and don't rule out ox cheeks which make a great stew.
You may find that farm shop sausages work out cheaper than the supermarket - we bought half a dozen from our local butcher, and they were the best we have had for ages - £2.0
