Selling a car, any experience of webuyanycar or hurst?

Hi Guys, Need to sell my car soon and dont really want to sell privately. Anyone used and recommend (or not) any of the local services provided by webuyanycar or hurst car buyer or any other company offering this service? Many thanks :)

I imagine both would be poor value. A work colleague was offered £900 for a car by webuyanycar.com, then sold it privately very quickly and easily for £1600.

If you don't want to sell privately, I'd try asking a few small time dealers what they'd give you for it as a trade sale. Depends what type and age of car you have. Auction might be a good bet but if it's old and cheap, the fees will eat into your funds.

Webuyanycar....will quote u a price online ...when you turn up they will inspect car and deduct for every stonechip scratch etc..anything from £10's to £100's ...oh and if you have a towbar fitted take it off before you go as they will reduce the price by hundreds for having this ( idea being your car has been harder driven if you have towbar ) they also charge you an admin fee for buying from you. They do deposit the cash within a weekish...so it depends how much you are prepared to accept for your car and if you don't want the hassle selling privately etc. From what I can tell the figure they quote you online could easily come down by a further 20% by the time they inspect your car.

    what is it?

it all depends on the age make & model if its sought after or not?

I would put it on ebay, one week auction, starting sunday evening at 20:00.

Describe it honestly and highlight its best features - eg long mot, tax, low miles, nice colour, etc, etc.

Put at the bottom of the listing 'Viewing welcome prior to bidding. You are bidding to buy not to view. Final auction price non-negotiable'

I've always used autotrader and found the cars have sold quickly for a price I was happy with. Does depend on what you are selling though I imagine.

I was offered £200 for an old car some time ago by Hursts. Sold it privately for £950.

You will always make more by selling it privately. The major benefit to selling a car through a dealer is if it is a trade-in and then you won't have to do without a car between when you sell it and when you buy another.

I found both offered shocking money, inspite of what their adverts (mis) guide you to believe. If you will not sell privately, you will almost certainly lose a chunk of money.
    Always overestimating...

Webuyanycar offered a third of what the first bloke to see it paid when i sold it privately, and that was just the online quote before deductions!
Private all the way rather than these rip off merchants

    says it all here.. http://www.moneysupermarket.com/community/forums/t/help-we-buy-any-car-16876.aspx

`let me shed some light on these charlatans,,i worked there,,they will rob your car and clean it up and offer it to traders all over the country with most actually being sent to the car auction, entered in a different trading name of course, and sold for profit,,put your car in the auction yourself and dont be an idiot,,amazes me how people fall for this scam, and amazes me even more that trading standards allow it,as a lot of private folk are taking there cars to them but clocking them first to get better offers. `
