From the news article:
"An RAF plane carrying 1m euros is flying to Cyprus from Britain as a contingency measure to provide military personnel with emergency loans, the Ministry of Defence says.
The move comes after a controversial one-off levy of up to almost 10% on savings in Cyprus was announced.
The money will be used for British personnel and their families if cash machines and debit cards stop working."0 -
I just LOVE the fact that it's actual cash, on an actual plane.
Not sure it would go down too well with other cypriots though if they can't access cash but the british personnel can. However, I guess it's all part and parcel of looking after those serving us.0 -

Oh I don't know. If the recipients are anything like the service personnel I know the money will be in the economy very very quickly!0 -

flown a lot more than this on my person before. I have a picture from the old days in Iraq when we were flying cash in to cover Iraqi cash held as part of the sanctions. I thought 4 pallets of 100 dollar bills 1.5 metres high was a lot of money until I saw that diagram explaining what the USA deficit looked like.
Just for reference, you can carry a million dollars quite easily in a medium sized briefcase.0 -

I suppose were just so used to electronic banking now, actual cash actually being flown and taking time to reach somewhere is a bit of an alien world to most of us.0 -

Nothing quite speaks volumes like lots and lots of worthless printed paper Graham. I would have thought you above everyone would appreciate that!0 -
Any chance they could take Abu Katada with them?0
