Re-using an open return train ticket

I am planning on buying an open return train ticket from Manchester to Wolverhampton. On my return journey, I will need to stop at Macclesfield for one night. Macclesfield is a station that the Wolverhampton to Manchester train stops at. My plan is to then get back on the train the following day, at Macclesfield, and complete my journey to Manchester, all using one ticket. Is this allowed? What happens if I get my ticket stamped between Wolverhampton and Macclesfield, can I still use it from Macclesfield to Manchester the following day? It will still be in date as I'll have one month to use it.

That's ok. No problem.0

Yes the outbound on these tickets is valid for one day, and sometimes (though not in this case), break of journey is not permitted outbound, but you can spread the return leg over 1 month.0

It is vital that you use the correct terminology, particularly if your ticket is marked between Wolvo and Macclesfield. You are making a break of journey (which is permitted for these tickets), you are not "reusing" your ticket which is absolutely not permitted (it would be taken as you saying you were making the whole journey or a second or more time using the same ticket) and would potentially lead to prosecution!!! Using the correct terminology avoids any potential confusion.0 -
Indeed. Re-using a ticket is NOT permitted. Breaking and resuming a journey IS permitted, and is not "re-using" a ticket. It's simply continuing it's use within the validity period.0
