Are people still doing ECDL?

I've seen it mentioned on several job vacancies, I've also seen RSA 3 requested several times. However, it doesn't seem that these courses are as widely available as they once were, so I'm wondering if many people still try to obtain these qualifications or if there is another more common course people go for these days?

I've been looking at the Learndirect courses. Did you do it at a centre or did you buy a course to do at home? They're offering either option right now. At centres, they offer ECDL Essentials L1 and ECDL Extra L2, would this be the full ECDL qualification? The home learning one that you buy is just listed as ECDL.

I did mine at a local centre, it was empty most of the time so managed to ask alot of questions. My certificate lists it as BCS Level 2 Certificate in IT User Skills (ECDL Extra) (ITQ). I didnt do all of the course at the centre though, I went maybe 2 or 3 times a week for about 2 hours max and the rest I did at home, the exams had to be done at the centre.

I wonder if the Extra L2 the centre offers is the same as the 1 I completed.

I just read this on a distance learning website: 'The new ECDL qualification can be broken down into two levels: ECDL Essentials and ECDL Extra.'

I've just searched for local centres on the Learndirect site and found one close to me, so I'll be popping in to ask them a few questions. I guess the fact that employers are still asking for it and that Learndirect still offer it is a good sign it's still a top course to do.
