Just go by the date in the title. If they have a guessed date (guessedenddate written in the post or a ?) then check to see if live. If they are still live, PM the original poster so that they can edit the date.Golly, I've got the newt pregnant...

Maybe I'm incorrect but does hitting the expired button not just generate a 'ticket' in which MSE towers have to deal with, a bit like the report/spam button?
Does hitting the expire button make the comp 'jump' to GO on its on without human intervention, if it does great, however if not then the guys in MSE towers are probably on over time trying to clean up the boards.
In my opinion the BG's do a good job and to jump a few pages to find the end date, if that's how you enter, isn't that much more work. The shinbone is a device for finding furniture in a dark room.:TBig thanks to all competition posters:T0 -
Heya OUAD
The comp moves into GO automatically when it's been expired by a number of different users. I've clicked expired on a comp before when it's on the main board and after it's been registered you look at the trail thing at the top of the page (very technical terms) it's then under Game Over instead of Competitions Time.
I agree with you about the BG's doing an excellent job, and IMO i assume the expired button was there to give them a bit of a helping hand (advents, end of months etc).
The issue before was that the button needed to be clicked a certain number of times (MSE won't state the number to prevent misuse) but that number was a bit high... They've now lowered the amount (again, not stating) so that it's easier for us users to move dead comps over, freeing up a little of the BG's time, especially as they all BG on other boards as well as ours.
I just see it as giving a little back to the forum, especially as I don't post many comps, plus it keeps the board tidyI know regulars board needs a good going through but will have a proper look in there once I've eventually caught up with my own comping
I'm certainly not forcing anyone to press the expired button, just making aware that if people decide to do so, that the post will jump over when it reaches the required amount of expired clicks, primarily to ease the BG's burden, to stop the board looking so daunting to newbies when they first tackle comping here, to avoid people huffing about dead comps being all over the place like there was a little after the advents, and for those who just like a tidy boardGolly, I've got the newt pregnant...

I think it was originally for those competitions which ended before the E: date that was shown, if the end date had already passed there would be no need to look at the post.
Either way MSE were happy to reduce the number of expired clicks required to send a post to game over so it's safe to assume they have no problem with its bulk use.0 -
With so many ending tonight they'll be a lot to expire in the next few days.0

Hi there.
I've noticed today a few comps I've tried to enter have finished, although the title of the post says 05/04 (for example). Could someone please tell me where this 'expired' button is so I can help out a bit?And is it even possible to do that if the comp title says its still live?
I was going to bump them to let people know, but thought better of that after reading some recent threads on here! ::p

Heya Duckfeet,
When you click into the comp thread, above the first post on left hand side are 2 blue buttons; Post Reply and Expired. If you click it in error, you can unclick it (sometimes) to return it to a non-expired state.
Depending on how many you've found, normally a bump would be ok, as it only needs 'some' people clicking expired to send it over. If you come across 100, maybe not, considering the debate at the moment
Only thing I ask is BE SURE it's expired. If they already finished but with an end date of tomorrow, sometimes you can just leave it to be swept up with tomorrow's clearout. Although you might upset those who end date comp in that fashion, if they press expire, it'll soon move.
At the end of the day, no doubt you'll upset someoneWell done though for pitching in

Thanks Renegadia.
I can see the huge blue button with 'expired' written on it now, how I never saw it before when I was looking...I dunno.
