Misleading default notices
Hi, I defaulted on a high st bank credit card in 2005 and asked a debt management co for assistance. Any future repayments were then made through the debt management co. The lender sent me a default notice and passed the debt to a collection agency to whom all future payments were made. In 2010, the same high st bank bought the debt back from the collection agency and posted another default notice against me. If you look at my credit history with a credit reference agency like Experian or Equifax you would think that I defaulted in 2010 instead of 2005. In order words, the default notice date is not the date I defaulted but when a company takes over your debt. This has grave consequences for me as my credit history appears not to improve but deteriorate and can remain so depending on how many times the debt is sold on to the next company. What can I do to correct this misleading picture about my credit history?

Don't quote me on this but I'm 98% sure that you can't be defaulted for the same debt twice.0

I think depends on whether you then defaulted on the payment plan.
If not then the original default date stands and you can contact the credit reference agencies to notify them of the mistake.Bad luck breeds bad luck.
Damn I'm doomed.0 -
You can only ever be defaulted on an account once. Send them a complaint, in writing, signed for, asking them to correct the default date.
Mention you will be referring to the FOS after 8 weeks if no response. Also complain to the OFT.
Google 'ICO default guidelines', it has stuff to quote in the letter if needed.:beer:0
