Refusing delivery - Amazon

I placed an order on Amazon at the weekend for things I needed for a forthcoming business trip. This morning work told me the trip was cancelled so I tried to cancel my Amazon order. I got an email saying that they were unable to cancel the order but I could refuse delivery of the items when they arrived. What exactly would that entail? Would I still be charged for the return and is it safe, ie what would happen if the courier lost the goods?

I'm unsure whether to refuse delivery or not, is it a good idea?

I had the same when I ordered something and straight away found it half price elsewhere, tried to cancel but failed and Amazon advised me to refuse delivery..

So I did. It did work but it depends which courier how smooth it is. You can just tell the delivery driver you not accepting it, or if your carded you can call their depot. Mine was by yodel and despite being marked as rejected, they still tried to deliver it again. Finally they got the plot and it was returned safely to Amazon for free, Amazon refunded OK. It did take a week or so, the return journey seems to be at the couriers leisure.

You have no risk as until you sign for it (which you won't) its not your problem.
