Advice please. Bank charges

Hi all. First thread. Hope it's in the right place!

I travel a lot and indeed am overseas at the moment. I got a letter from my business bank account in Scotland which I never saw stating that they are now charge £15 a month for the account. I suddenly have £55 debt from the several months that have passed. I only found out on a recent trip back to the UK. They have threatened me with giving this to debt collectors. £55! It isn't so much the money, but both the credit rating issue and the principle! OK, they mailed me but I didn't see the letter!

In addition, I had a business partner way back when and now have no contact with that person which means I cannot even shut the account down apparently without both signitures. I am stuck!

Advice please?

Firstly, you need to sort this, else once its gone to debt collectors, the £55 will become a lot more with their charges. Although I see your point to a degree, it isn't the bank's fault you aren't about to regularly check your mail, so not knowing the terms and conditions had changed because of this reason is not a valid one, they have fulfilled their obligations to notify you.

Secondly, you will need to track down the partner and get the account closed down as quickly as possible. You might have lost contact, but you need to get hold of them to get the account closed. If you are not on good terms, you will need to get this achieved via a third party such as a solicitor.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

    Hi

You can always reclaim the bank charges of course, go to the front page and follow Martin's advice. That should put the wind up them.

AND get the bl888y account closed asap.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • I will try to get the acount closed. Ironically they called to say they were closing it as I hadn't used it for 6 months. I didn't want them too as I did want to keep it. I didn't know about the charges at that point!

I can't close the account as I cannot contcat ex partner. I can't afford a solicior either. Suggestions?

    Thanks guys..
