So - I guess a good problem.........
I'm due to exchange contracts on Wednesday/Thursday and complete on the 2nd April which is all good to go.
Last week I was approached by another company offering me a very good job - almost twice my current salary. I saw them Friday and they've asked me back Tuesday - they want me quickly I think.
Thing is I'm petrified that if I give me notice in at my current company before I get the keys then the bank could do some kind of employment spot check just before releasing the money and pull out.
But then if I make the new company wait 2 weeks before accepting their employment they might tell me to take a walk.
And then I promised my wife I would off for two weeks while we move (and to be honest that's important to me too) which means I'm probably goingto have to take 5-6 days unpaid leave which is not great when moving into a new house!!
Anyone got any advice??

They want to pay you 2x your current salary but you cant get them to wait 2 weeks?!?Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -

If they have approached you then you hold the cards to some extent. What about notice periods? Surely your current role has at least a notice period?
On Tuesday I would simply say that you're really thrilled at the prospect of working for them but are currently in the process of moving home, which means checks are being done regarding employment. Also state that as a loyal employee you would want to work your notice period and train anyone new to the current business in your role. Therefore you would be looking at a start date between x and y.
Any company worth their salt will wait for the right candidate. If they wont then maybe you have had a lucky escape?
If they wont accommodate a potential employee that they have head hunted then I would be inclined to think what if i was an employee and needed emergency leave?! Would they also be difficult regarding that?
To be honest, its 2 weeks away - with a long bank holiday weekend thrown in! They would almost certainly wait less than 2 weeks before seeking referees, allowing you time to complete and hand in your notice? Its not unusual to have a 4 or 8 week notice period, so its not an unreasonable request if you state you will accept the role with a start date of 6 weeks.0
