    Even if the car was SORN, wouldn't you still need some form of insurance to cover theft?

    Not legally you wouldn't.

    Whether it would be sensible to do so, would depend on the value of the car, where you live, and where it would be stored.

    If the car wasn't worth a huge amount, I lived in a low crime area, ad the car was in a built on garage, covered by the house alarm, I think I'd chance it.
