Harassing Debt Collectors

Hi everyone I am currently having HUGE problems with a collection agency called MKRR. which i believe is MK rapid recovery. These people have phoned every day at around 8:30am for nearly 2 months. Once my daughter answered and got the third degree about who she was and how long i would be. Is this classed as harassment and what can i do about it.
ON top of this i am not sure if the debt is statute barred, it was an overdraft i had in 2006, they say i defaulted in 2008 when in fact it was 2006. when does the 'countdown' start when it comes to statute barred?
Thanks in advance

I think it depends on when the debt was last acknowledged.
Would it be possible to change your phone number, to avoid the nuisance calls?0 -
Have you asked them to contact you by letter only? there is a template letter on here somewhere. It does sound like you feel harrassed.0

Write to them, and if you haven't already, and ask them to prove the dates, the onus is on them. In fact ask them to prove there is actually a debt. There is a chance they have added a phantom payment that you didn't actually make so beware.
Further more, send the template letter saying you wish only to be contacted in writing, if they persist in phoning send a complaint to the FOS.
This bunch of scum are renowned for buying statute barred debt and harrassing people into paying.
If you say it's 2006 then it's statute barred and there is nothing they can do.I'm Debt Free :j 2/09/2013

Sorry, can't actually help. Must admit that from the title I opened this thread thinking it was about how to harrass debt collectors and thought that would be a refreshing change

To be honest i have never actually acknowledged the debt, i have always said to them put it in writing if you think i owe you money. we moved house just under a year ago and they still havent written to me here, so am really unsure what to do? Now i have a different problem its british gas. when i moved from my old house to new house i asked if i could go on credit meter, i still had around £260 debt outstanding on my pre payment meter. long story short i rang them told them i was moving could i arrange to pay my £15 per week i was paying on pre payment meter another why ie card or DD or SO, they said yes, to be fair i totally forgot until october when i recieved a debt collectors letter i rang them and they told me i had to pay £25 per week, i rang british gas back to ask why they didnt contact me as i had asked them too. now i am being written to by two different debt collectors. one yesterday and a different one today :-)0
