I agree, but it's not perfect and people can still complain about it.

Neither does anyone else! Nobody gets forced to go and sell at a bootsale.

But most of the expenses of selling at a bootsale or a shop are fixed. You pay the same price for a pitch whether you sell one item for 99p or 100 items for £99. You pay the same rent for a shop whether you are selling things for 99p or £9.99. You can work out your expenses and calculate the point where you have covered your expenses and any sales you make after that is profit for you.

You don't get that with ebay, it doesn't matter how many items you sell, ebay and paypal are always behind you taking their fees.

agreem BUT you dont get the potential of thousands and thousands of people seeing what you got for sale;)

Is the ebay fee always 10%?
I can't seem to find an answer, but I sold a table for a friend today for £500 and someone told me that they charge more for commission on items over 75.00??

Anyone know the ebay fee on £500 sale price?

Wouldn't it be easier to check on ebay rather than get differing opinions or guestimates from strangers?

    fees for private sellers:

    fees for business sellers:

True, we can always stop using eBay and paypal but it doesn't mean we have to agree to their fees...we all must agree they are too high considering the amount they collect on global sales.

Do we let British gas and banks charge us for what they like??

Um, yes- British Gas won't reduce my bill at all regardless of how hard I try and negotiate. Neither will my bank- my only option is to go elsewehere if i don't like what they charge

So why didn't you go to CEX or one of those mobile recycling places then?

It's not much of an option if all the other places have the same charges, or can't actually provide the service.

We all use things while not liking them and/or complaining about them. The income Tax System, trains, buses, hospitals, supermarkets, solicitors, etc. etc. How come people suddenly can't complain about ebay?

No one is saying they can't complain, some things though we are required to stick with -like HMRC , eBay is optional, no one is forced to use it.
