claiming travel expenses

Hi All .
Quick question .
the company i work for allows me to claim back 21 pence per miles driven relationg to work .
i.e if i attend a training course or have to attend a meeting outwith my normal place of work .
what i want to know is if this is allowable as the rate for mileage on the HMRC website is 40 odd pence per mile .
I do intend to raise this with the person in charge but would like to get some info first
regards

They can pay what they like. HMRC allow up to 45p per mile for the first 10,000 miles. You can reclaim the tax on the difference between what you get and the HMRC rate (ie 4.8p per mile if you're a basic rate tax payer) from HMRC. You need a P87 form which can be downloaded from their site.

Lots of threads on here about it if you search for P87.

    my own car .
i suppose what i am trying to figure out is why the company don't allow me to claim back the full amount that they can then claim back from the HMRC .

They can't claim anything back from HMRC. Your expenses come from their profits.

They may well invoice at 45p and pay you at 21p. Nothing to stop them doing that.
