Sofa query!

We purchased two sofas from Next. When they arrived we felt that the cushions were much softer than the one we had sat in intore. Next sent out an independent sofa doctor. As a result Next uplifted the sofas and refunded us our money.

We have now taken delivery of a G-plan sofa at almost double the price! however I am finding that this is very soft too!

Can anyone 'in the know' tell me if shops display different filled cushions on their sofas from what they deliver? I know this would be against trading standards but how can I find out?

When we bought an Ercol settee a few years ago, the cushions were very different to the ones in the display model. Apart from the softness, there was a decorative bit of 'piping' missing from the cushions.

I complained to the store and they had the cheek to say that piping was extra and that I had not specified the same filling as the store model. How was I to know that there were 3 different fillings? - the salesman didn't say anything. They wouldn't do anything about it and that was that, but the store closed down 18 months later. I wonder if they didn't have much repeat custom?
