reclaiming washing expenses

hi,
the company i work for, are putting our names on company logo'd safety wear. Is there any allowances or legislation regarding the washing of this equipment?

It would have to be a requirement of your job that you and anyone else who did your job (in other words, if you left and someone else did it) that you wash the clothes. This is interpreted quite strictly but there is certainly provision in HMRC instructions to allow deductions eg for cost of nurses/NHS staff cleaning their uniforms. Suggest you ask your employer to make it a condition of employment. Also be sure what you are wearing would also meet the test of being allowable - there is some debate over whether or not just having a company logo is enough eg if you could keep the clothes and take it off. Either way it is something which your employer has to get involved with.0
