You had a helpful response from me in #5. You have indicated a preference to seek advice from a specific individual on a different site - my suggestion that you do just that appears to have found a nerve to strike.
You could have received advice on achieving a positive outcome in terms of dealing with your employer on here. Good luck with that.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -

All responses (including yours in post #5) have been helpful except yours in post #14. I still fail to see why that was necessary.
The way i see it - the more people giving feedback the better. It certainly can't harm things.
You seem to have a problem with me getting advice from an 'outside source'. I don't understand why this seems to trouble you so much.
I am grateful for the advice given here, but to imply i should only seek advice from either 1) MSE & only MSE or 2) Only the first place that i ask is pointless IMO.
Asking elsewhere in addition to, does not mean that i've disregarded all advice given so far. If you think it does then that's really not my fault.0 -
I know what you're saying, but if anyone responded like that to me & i was a boss then i'd continue until i got a yes or no. If i got a maybe or partly or whatever then i'd want an explination as to why they were unable to give a yes/no.
If he asks whether you agree say, "I hear what you're saying."
This can be done. It wont be the boss confronting me - he'll get someone to do that who is very pushy/assertive.If he puts stuff in front of you to sign, thank him and tell him you'll take them away and have a good read.
I also understand this is me trying to predict a lot of what ifs etc. I could very well not get charged & be overreacting. Best to be prepared though.0 -
OP if your employer call you in monday and ask you to sign anything refuse saying until I speak to the union I will not sign anything. That's all you can do, many insurance policies say never admit liability.0

No one can make you say anything.
I assume you're imagining they'll try to make you admit liability for the damage:
"Were you negligent in this accident? Yes or no?"
"I'm still considering that."
"Yes or no?"
"I'm still considering that."
Ad nauseum.
One thing that comes to mind: They might be incredibly aggressive when you go in on Monday. Or they might flip it and act very sweet, saying something like, "Poor lad, bad luck. It hurts us to have to do this since you're such a good worker, but if you could just sign here we can all move on..."
They're a bunch of small-time bullies. You can handle them.0 -
I don't know who this SarEl is, but he appears to run one of the subforums on redundancyforums single handed. I don't know why MSE don't shut this forum down and just leave a big sticky telling people to go to redundancyforums and be done with it.Mr_Mystery wrote: ».... I was going to ask SarEL, but i wanted to find the section in my contract regards deductions before i went there though as i wanted to try & give as full a picture as possible straight away. You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0 -

I fail to see why some seem to think we should limit ourselves when seeking help.
Ah yes .... because we should only ever seek advice from one source for best results.
I wonder if when buying things, these people only ever buy from the first place they go to & never pool prices for the best result.0 -

The OP did get very good advice in post 2, with not much needing to be added, but it probably is worth having the exact wording of the deductions clause to hand.
Leaving that aside, I used to work for the Cleansing Dept of one of the London councils. The Cleansing Dept looked after ALL the council's vehicles: buying, selling, tax, MOTs etc.
One of my jobs was filing the accident reports, of which a fair few involved bin lorries of all kinds. You would be astonished how easy it is to knock over a lamp post without realising it, and amazed at how much damage said lamp post could do - plate glass window of a dept store, anyone?
As a new and young driver, I learned a very good lesson there: Never Argue with a Bin Lorry. The Bin Lorry Will Win.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

He is a she. She is an employment barrister, who for some reason gives out a lot of very good advice for free on that forum. She used to post here, but was banned for reasons which are too lengthy to go into, but which is frankly a shame as she gave out far better advice than anyone else who posted on here.0 -

SarEl does not appear to have been banned - no PPR against her username. She just chooses not to post her very often now after a whole lot of grief on here.0
