I believe it is form P87 on the following link:

Son should fill in section 4.Today is the first day of the rest of your life0 -
Thanks for the link - my husband has to buy his own tools and he also bought Sat Nav for his job as he is a field service engineer. Can he claim for these? Als, what about alowances for washing his overalls which are work supplied.
Any idea how he cna claim for those?
Do they send money back to us or what - we have not done this before but I thought he would have been allowed to claim for buying tools. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.0 -
On the subject of the overalls, there has been a thread covering claiming washing of overall costs, but I can't immediately find it! From memory, if we are talking washing work overalls rather than everyday clothes then you can claim £45 per year.
To claim expenses as tax deductible, assuming husband is employed rather than self-employed, then HMRC say that expenses have to be 'wholly, exclusively & necessarily' for the work. Hence I would say tool yes, sat nav no.
You should be able to claim for previous years as well. I'd give the tax office a call, they are usually pretty helpful.Today is the first day of the rest of your life0
