CSA 2 and tax credits info used ..... cont'd

Hi, following earlier posts , I am an nrp and after sending back a csa form I have been given a sum to pay.

I am on the csa2 system now after being on csa1 for 10+ years , I sent in my wageslips/tax credits info etc.

I am employed but when i sent my info in to calculate the sum i put in the additional info area that my employment was 12 month fixed term contract which is due to expire in april/may 2013.

If i am not kept on by my employer how will this effect csa maintenance, my wife works but i am currently the higher earner and this enables the csa to use our tax credits but how would me being unemployed change matters ??

If my wife becomes the sole earner and i didn't work do the csa use the tax credits info in the same way as when employed or are they not allowed to use working/child tax credit info to calculate a sum if i am unemployed ??

thanks for any replies !

You will have to inform them once your circumstances change and ask for a reassessment.
  • They always count child tax credits as the NRP's income. However, when your wife is the main earner, they will consider the working tax credits as her income. If your child tax credits are less than £100/wk and you have no other source of income, you will have to pay £5 a week if you do lose your job.

Thanks , could I ask though , if I am made redundant and end up on jsa I understand I would pay the flat rate of maintenance of £5 per week but do they still take into account child or working tax credits or both credits whilst on jsa and paying flat rate maintenance.

If I got jsa the sum would be lower than my wifes weekly earnings so how would this affect maintenance then , do the above mentioned tax credits get used still or do I just pay £5 p/week ??

as far as im aware if your wife earns more than you tax credits cannot be touched, if your unemployed you pay £5, no tax credits involved, however as your wife is the sole earner you may not be entitled to monetary benefits but just get your stamp paid for and therefore you have no income at all, and as far as im aware you cant pay anything out of nothing. in querying the same thing, as i work hubby doesnt he signs on and gets no money at all only stamp paid, and why should i pay for a child that i didnt make (even though i do voluntarily, its not appreciated so its stopping). good luck

You'd pay the flat rate of £5 when on JSA - tax credits don't come into it then.
