Scam / for real?

My friend has got a letter from her mortgage company. It says that they have been told she doesn't live there and there is a form to return that says if you know where she lives then tell us. The letter is signed:
Customer Service Associate
Mortgage and Reconciliation Services

Is this a scam or for real. How don't the mortgage people know that she lives in the house when obviously she's paying council tax, bills, mortgage etc and so is living there?

Maybe someone told them that she rents it out?

Right, to clarify, she DOES live there?

In which case why doesn't she just ring the mortgage company to clarify if they sent the letter?

    Who is the lender?

When I owned my home, (lender was GE money) I got a number of letters down the year from them addressed to "the occupier" and inside was a form asking "the occupier" did they know the whereabouts of Mr and Mrs Piggy and did they have a current address and telephone number for us.

Is this person a Lloyds Banking Group customer?

Is he/she letting the property and do they have other accounts with LBG group members, registered at different addresses?

LBG is now routinely checking to see if mortgagors are letting their homes when the above is the case.

Thanks. Not letting it out. She lives there. No accounts at other addresses as far as I know but will ask to make sure. Lender is rooftop.
