Morning everyone! lutzi I wonder if you married us if near Bristle? I was 15 mins late due to hair issues :) all fine then got told had to go now or registrar would run out of time and would have to leave to go to next wedding

No I'm up north my dear, just flying from Bristol on a penny flight (those were the days) :).

If we have more than one wedding we are not allowed to endanger the start time of the next wedding if the previous one is running late, as it's not fair to them. I've never had to leave a wedding to get to another venue on time yet, but it will happen sooner or later. (15 minutes wouldn't be a problem for us). If we could we'd then go back and marry the latecomers later on in the day. We do wait ridiculous amounts of time for people sometimes, usually unpaid if it's at the weekend as we just get a set fee. If there's a genuine problem then of course we understand and do everything we can to help, but some people really do just take the mickey.
Whoops, sorry that message sounded a bit grumpy and accusatory on re-reading it, totally not intended. So many weddings on DTTB and 4 Weddings are hours late, I'm amazed that they go ahead at all. BTW the registrars at our wedding were great.

No hun, I didn't take your post in that way at all, just thought I'd explain where your Registrars were probably coming from, they wouldn't be allowed to endanger the start time of the next wedding even if they wanted to.

As I say, some people (not you) do really try it on though - as you know, we have to interview people before the ceremony starting time and it all takes time. I've been sat looking out the window of a certain stately home before today, 20 minutes after the wedding was due to start, watching the groom and his henchmen wandering up the drive, then disappearing into the shrubbery for a 10 minute fag! (This at 20 past five, when we still HAD to have people married by 6 o'clock or stop the wedding:eek:). Waiting half an hour is all too common :(. You wouldn't mind, but they've generally planned it for 2 years, and usually it's a bridesmaid who's throwing a strop about something. :rotfl:
    Hope is not a strategy.
