. They said of I dot pay they will instruct a debt collecting agency and start legal proceeding.

Personally I would call their bluff. Mainly because of having some experience of being at the receiving end of debt collectors. Long story and won't bore you with the details. Threatening letters. Their agent will be in the area on such a date and will call to make arrangements. It was just bully boy tactics and no one called. Mobile phone company you know who you are!

Also they forced you to sign this clawback in order to receive your bonus.... blackmailing bully boys.

I think legal advise is your best bet, even if its "watertight" to me it's an unfair clause. And it's irrelevant how soon you left afterwards, bonus is about performance for the previous year.

If you do end up with a CCJ, you will not be able to apply for any jobs in the Finance sector or any other industry that do credit checks on new staff.

No its not all about past performance, its about gaining loyalty and keeping employees. Hence why some pay out a while after the year end or put the condition in as the OP's

Don't say that, I'm looking for a new job and just got my bonus.

They can go swing, it is only for £1k, they would have a right cheek asking for it back.
    Bad luck breeds bad luck.

    Damn I'm doomed.

Of course you will be able to apply if you have CCJ's.

And what is more, any CCJ will not be registered if it is settled in accordance with the terms of the order. So no adverse impact on job hunting.

No one should be afraid to let an honest dispute go to court for fear of losing.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'
