Council tax 12 monthly payments

Just had our annual council tax demand. Hidden away in the small print was the bit about 12 monthly payments. Around here they require written notice by 25th March if we wish to pay every month.
That's Oxfordshire.

The regulations advise that the request needs to be in writing but puts no onus on the council to advertise the fact that 12 instalments are available.
The 25th March isn't set in legislation - the cut off date for a bill being issued and still get 12 instalments is 15th April 13 but your council is probably trying to balance the demand to get the bills issued in time.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
