now im looking at figures my instinct is to run and hide and not deal with it.
its looking like £35k of debt.
name and praise wonga who have instantly frozen my interest for 30 days.
name and shame uk lenders alliance who tried to scare me by saying i will accrue a "good couple of hundred £s in interest" as the dmp will take months to sort.
im still teary, ive cried pretty much constantly and i want to go back to bed and pull the duvet over my head.
but im dealing with this!
i have worked out i owe 18 different people, 11 of those are pay day lenders, then 7 with banks, credit cards and my mobile phone company.
ive made a start. i want it all to go away but ive started.

Please don't run and hide, the worst thing you can do is bury your head in the sand and hope it will go away, because it won't. It has taken a great deal of strength already to come on here and post what you have.
It is going to be a lengthy process but small steps, pay as much as you can realisticly afford and as regularly as possible.
I guess your next step is to ring as many of those lenders as you can and explain your situation, try and get interest frozen and see if any of them will sympathise and freeze interest etc. as Wonga already have. It's always darkest before the dawn.

Hi Slimzoe,
I think you're doing great. You have come so far in the last few days - and really you've done the hard bit, telling your partner. I've read your other post but didn't have time to log on and comment.
A few days ago you had a different mountain to climb and you did it - it wasn't easy but you hung in there and faced the challenge.
This one will work out too, no matter what it may seem like now.
Realistically no matter what anyone says, they can't take money off you that you haven't got.
Read other people's diaries on here for inspiration and learn how they did it. Ask anything you need to. We are all here to help. I may not have your level of debt but there are others on here who have/ have had much more debt and I learn so much from reading their posts and following tips they give.
Best wishes,0 -

Well they have two choices, ignore you or stand by you and support the situation you are in. I am sure they will support you fully. Let us know how your meeting with payplan goes!
Keep going! It's always darkest before the dawn.

Sounds like the proverbial slippery slope.
OP: Hopefully the feelings you have now can be used as a positive, to act as a catalyst to resolve your current debt situation.
Have you done an SoA as yet? If not, then you should find that seeing it all down in black and white will give you some clarity and show you what you need to do to get back on an even keel.
All the best and chin up.0 -
because im an idiot, robbing from peter to pay paul. no other excuse.
I think it's irrelevant now how you got there, unless you haven't obviously learnt that you can NEVER let yourself get there again.
The important thing is realising where you are now and starting to take steps to right it. Which you are. It's always darkest before the dawn.

Well done for telling your other half. Be strong and will get there at the end. Like I said from my previous reply, lots of nice people here to give us a good moral support.
Be strong.!!!!0 -
There's a key pharase here, in what you say, Zoe. Your reason for getting into so much debt: "Robbing Peter to pay Paul, because I'm an idiot". This is important. It shows you have taken full responsibility for your situation & are no longer in denial. This shows you have your head in the right place to tackle this. It will take a long time, but it can be done. Slow & steady. Recognise the difference between a 'want' & a 'need'. perhaps do an SOA, even if you don't want to put it on here, just so as to look at absolutely every outgoing. At the beginning of the debt-busting process, there's almost always something which can be cut. Good luck with it all x2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever
2) To read 100 books (36/100) 3) The Shrinking of Foxgloves 7.7kg/30kg
