Halifax First Payment - Advice Please

Hi

I am looking for some advice please I have just purchased my first flat completiontook place on the 28th Feb. I received a letter from Halifax saying my firstpayment would go out today and then the 1st of every month afterthat. I checked my bank account and no money has been taken out I can see thatmy direct debit is in place.

I called Halifax earlier and the gentleman said that there was no paymentdue until the 1st April and he checked my bank details which werecorrect. I am now worried that the money has not gone out and this will affectmy credit file and also cause trouble with my mortgage.

I would appreciate any advice thanks.

you may have missed the payment cut off date, my first payment with halifax was for the last 2 weeks of a month and then the next month so 6 weeks mortgage for payment one. It may well be your first payment is 1st April which will be the 4 weeks arrears and 4 weeks advance.

This shouldn't affect your credit file as long as its halifax payment dates that have caused this. Get them to confirm your actual 1st mortgage payment date then they cant put anything negative on your credit file. Just make sure you are prepared for a 2 month mortgage payment next month!

Hi, if you did complete and the mortgage opened on the 28th of Feb then your first payment including initial interest should have been taken in March normally around the 10th if too close to your preferred payment date (1st) then collected on the 1st April onwards. Id check why no payment for the month of March has been taken. Maybe the account wasnt opened until 1st March?

I wouldnt worry about your credit file, should anything have gone wrong it can be eaisly corrected.

Halifax have been pretty inconsistent recently on the first payment dates.

They have apparently not changed process, but have seen many come out without earlier than expected without the client being aware.

I would firstly ensure the monthly payment is in your account ongoing and keep calling them, as the details may not have hit their systems yet and you are in limbo for a few days/week.

I have had clients with similar completion dates that have already had their first payments taken..

    All the best

This is what happened with us. We completed on the 31st of January this year, with first payment being taken around the 10th of February.

I agree with what everyone else has said. For a completion date of 28th February, the first payment to cover February and March, would happen around mid March.

Just wondering if the person you spoke to mentioned how much would be collected in April. If it really is the first payment due, if should be more than two months payments, to cover the day in February and the whole of March and April. If it's not for a a larger sum like that, then I think they definately should be collecting a payment in March also - I think you need to get back to them to clarify the situation.
