My husband will be 65 on 21st August and will retire then. Is he expected to work on the 21st, or will that be his first day of retirement?

Ask his employer - anything here will be speculation0

Agree - in some companies, you have to work to the end of the month, if you're monthly paid
It should be clear in your terms & conditions/staff handbook, but also see what the pension booklet states. Double check your understanding with personnel/HRWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

Having read through both handbooks, it seems to be a grey area. Another call to HR seems to be on the cards.0

Organise the leaving drink on the day before his birthday. If it's wrong then the hangover will give him the day off.
Congratulations.
What will he do with the time?0 -
Looking forward to the freedom to do as we please. First event is a 3 month trip to Scandinavia in our caravan to visit his family, then a fair bit of stuff to sort out in our house. Employer also wants him to come back as a "consultant", so it sounds like there will be plenty to do!0
