Real-life MMD: Holiday nightmare - should we forgo £6,000 or pay £1,000 more?

I think some of the posts in here are a little harsh - for the OP this may well be a genuine moral dilemma, just because it's not one that many of us can relate to, doesn't make it less valid.
To the OP, if you think your principles are worth £6000 then stick to them. However, where do you draw the line? The Post Office workers went on strike recently, but Royal mail employees did not, despite being part of the same union. Would you have refused to accept your post from the postman, in support of the Post Office strike?
I also don't think the travel agency were deceiving anyone, it's not upto them to tell you all the problems of the country you are going to, in case you might have a moral thing against them. I am unsure what the extra £945 is for - to take a different route, away from picket lines? Or have you already cancelled and have to pay this as a rebooking fee? Either way, I say go for it and have your holiday, and if you complain enough to the travel agency perhaps they will waive the fee. You will not be a scab for crossing a picket line on holiday, you will be a tourist! I like other people's idea of donating money to the cause, rather than just losing £6k to a travel agency.
