White Gold wedding band query

Options
Hello

My engagement ring is 18 carat white gold and I vaguely remember someone saying to me a while back that I will have to have a 18 carat white gold wedding band as any less such as 9ct or 14ct will eat away at the 18ct gold, is this true or a myth because its going to be alot more expensive to buy 18 carat wedding bands and we are trying to budget.

Any help would be much appreciated!

I was told the same at the jewellers when we went to get our wedding rings, and a relative of mine had a 9ct wedding ring, which wore away the thinner 18ct engagement ring over a few years.

I have had a 9ct gold wedding band for 21 yars and a 18ct gold engagement ring ( both yellow gold ) and they are fine.
I also heard this too and ment to replace the wedding ring with 18ct gold but never got round to it.....

My wedding ring is 9ct and my engagement ring 18ct. I remember hearing at the time that they should both be the same but money was tight...

Like belfastgal we thought we'd get around to replacing the wedding ring but never did. 23 years later....no damage to either ring from wearing them together daily.

Have heard this but paid little attention to it. All white gold can lose its look and may need to be professionally 'cleaned' (which I believe includes replating with something to protect it).

White gold is plated in Rhodium to give it a bright white finish (naturally it is yellowish), I worked in a jewellers (Ernest Jones) and it cost about £15 for a ring to be re-plated.

Ivan £40 seems really excessive to me:eek:

we used Goldsmiths who were around the pretty reasonably priced too. Unfortunately they misplaced one of the rings. Luckily (for them) they got it back. £40 must be a cover for !!!!!! Turpin Tradering Ltd.
