May wedding

Hi everyone. I haven't been on here for awhile as have been v busy with work.
I'm getting married in May and although I've been quite calm about everything up until now, I'm starting to feel a small wave of panic coursing through me at all times.. Eek!
Is anyone else getting married in May? What do you have left to sort out?
I have to choose my style of cake.
Pick thank you gifts
Finish wedding stationary ie order of service and menus
Buy bridemaids dresses
Evening invites
Table plan plus A1 board
Buy veil
Buy guest book
I'm not sure whether that's still a lot to do at this time scale?
Also does anyone have opinions on drinks reception entertainment? We are getting married at 1:30 and coming back to our reception around 3:30 where one drink and a few canap!s will be served. Photos will be taken and we will be brought in to sit down to eat our meal around 5. I have advised guests to eat a light brunch on the invite in light of the meal time. Do you think it's a big gap between? I'm worried people will get bored. Should I get entertainment?
What are you guys doing re time scales etc?
Thanks for any help x

Hi
There is probably a May thread on here, someone may be able to point you in the right direction.
Congratulations and good luck!
I am getting married in April. I think it sounds like you do have a fair bit to do but totally manageableI think I would make bridesmaid dresses a big priority in that list, just in case it takes a while to find something that suits, or they need adjustments.
I think your timescale sounds ok - pretty much identical to ours actually! Our canap!s are substantial enough to keep people going I hope, and I think that time will actually go really quickly with photos, chatting, etc. We aren't having any entertainment.
I was at a wedding in January that had a huge gap. The ceremony was at 2.30pm (but we had flown to the wedding and hadn't eaten since breakfast at 8am) and the wedding literally lasted 10 minutes (not joking). It was in th same place as the reception. There was one drink each and then a pay bar. It was in an arts centre so the bar area was kind of a lobby, and there was nowhere to sit down and no entertainment. There was a problem with their hog roast being delayed and so we didn't end up going in to food until about 6.30pm - so we were standing around with no food (though some people bought crisps from the bar!) for around 4 hours. And you know what? It was absolutely fine. Everyone chatted, drank at the bar, some of the older people found steps to sit down on, and it was not a problem at all. In fact it was nice to have time to catch up with people we don't see very often. So I think yours and my timescale will be fine.
I am coming to a conclusion that people go to weddings determined to enjoy themselves. They will make the best of a situation and they will WANT to have a good time, so they will make sure they do. Those are my words of wisdom for the day!
If you can't find an active May weddings thread, feel free to come and join us in Aprilwe do have a March bride with us so we can extend to a May bride too!

I'm another May bride, there is a May board but I think it hardly gets used which is odd as I would of thought May would of been more popular. I've had a wave of panic over me for the last 18 months and got nowhere! I have way more to sort than your list. I would buy the bridesmaids dresses though as that would stress me out, we've got 4 flower girls and I have returned so many pair of shoes!!0

Thanks for the replies(and link) I feel a little better now as last night i finished a few things. We even set up a Facebook event page for the evening as I realised I would need to get soo many addresses. However not my preferred choice of invitation, it's taken a weight off of my shoulders.
My bridesmaids dresses are tricky, I have chosen them but two of my maids live. In Spain. The older one is coming over for my hen mid April and I'm wondering whether to wait until after mid march so if it doesn't fit I can still exchange/ take back. As its from debenhams I was thinking of using the 28day return policy. However I know that's leaving it quite late!!!
Off to work now but I will have a look at the link (may board i assume)when I get home.
Have a lovely Saturday Everyone! Xx0 -
I'm a May bride as well, I gave up on the May thread as I was talking to myself half the time! We're getting married in Vegas, most things are done I think but then we didn't have as much to do anyway, seeing as the weddings not here and we're not having a party when we get back.
This is my list:
Had fitting on Saturday and just needs an inch off the bottom. Final fitting 2 May.
Hair trial is 30 March, not really sure what I want so will probably have something to buy after this.
Need to sort a cake for when we get back (nothing fancy)
H2B still needs a ring
There are various other little bits but I think those are the main things left to do.0 -
Hiya
May Bride here too, 11th to be exact!
i'm starting to have bad dreams the last 2 nights. One i forgot the cake and the other no one sat in the correct seats!!
So i still need to sort:
Cake
Flowers
seating plan
thank you gifts
Hen night
and the plans for the night before when me and the bridesmaids stay in the hotel, thinking of getting a beautician over to do our nails and stuff.
Got my dress friday, so excited! it's gorgeous! i don't do it justice!0 -
Hi , May 4th here and also staring to get anxious about stuff I havent done .
What we are doing is seeing registrar tomorrow to have music/readings okayed . Then as I have some odd days off work over the next few weeks , I really need to shift it all up a gear.
Although we are only having a small wedding , as we are a more mature couple and had the big do's in a past life. Thare is still a suprising amount to be sorted and ita ll getting nearer :exclamati0
