Try telling your bank manager you want to borrow some money to build a house for someone that isn't going to pay you any rent. Make careful note of his facial expression as it changes from thinking you've made a joke to growing concern as he starts to think you're mental.
If we're talking about genuine need then government should pay. The rest of them - well I don't much care - a lot of those tower blocks were knocked down in haste if you ask me.
If you told your bank manager that by borrowing the money, to buy a house you could save 50%(example)of your outgoings, because you wouldn't need to pay rent any more. Therefore easily affording the loan repayments he would think that was a sound decision. Not only that you have an asset they can repossess if necessary.
As for tower blocks they are interesting to watch being blown up (and no you can't leave some of the residents in them).;)"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Providing the individuals applying for credit actually meet the underwriting criteria as it now stands.0 -

He'd still think I was mental because we're talking about a loan to cover OTHER peoples housing costs. I could save 100% of outgoings by refusing to pay other peoples rent for them - wouldn't need a loan to buy a house for them either.
I'm joking about the tower blocks but there has to be a penalty for not providing for yourself if you are able.0 -

They aren't other people. I am not asking to pay your rent.
We as a society (under current policy and rules) have to pay the rent for our dependants. We (the government) have to be the rent for them.
Rather than tower blocks think "Papillon" somewhere in the North Sea."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

If we went to war tomorrow they would find the money.
If we want top bail out the Banks they find the money.
Despite a slight hiatus it would be self funding ."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

when we actually last had a major war we
-sold huge amounts of our overseas investments (and are forever poorer for it)
-we borrowed 250% of GDP
-we completed trashed the infrastructure of the UK
-we stop all non war investment of 6 years
etc.0 -

Never mind I am sure we will find the £100bn (or you could believe the guesstimates) or so, for the new high speed rail black hole, even though we can't provide accommodation.
In a country so deep in the dog doo I find it strange that we aspire to such grandeur. I wonder if we will have any electric generation in place to run it? Perhaps India would like to sell us some of their steam trains?"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....
