Options
Hi

What can I do if I have a mortgage protection plan for sicknes and unemployment but it isn't going to pay out even though I'm going to be unemployed for sickness reasons.

Do many MPPI 's actually pay!

Thanks

    Lots of them pay out.

But they also have certain conditions not covered.

    So what is the illness?

Why are they saying they won't pay?

most claims are met. The terms of when you can and cannot claim are described. They cant make things up at random. So, why is yours not paying out when you think it should?

Are you currently unable to work due to illness?

Are you claiming under the sickness cover at present?

Why/how are you being made unemployed for sickness reasons?

    Hi

I have been sick for 1 year now and receiving wages so didn't claim on sickness cover. I have general anxiety disorder which I have to take medication for. In the sickness cover it says mental or nervous disorders including stress and related conditions are not covered unless it is diagnosed by a SPECIALIST and needs a continued course of treatment.

I am being made unemployed as I cannot return to work as it makes me anxious more than a normal person. The unemployment cover states it will not cover if your employment occurs as a result of an accident or sickness.

Do you think I'll be able to claim anything or just stop the policy?

Thanks for all your posts so far.

Without knowing the contract, it's impossible for a third party to comment. Have a look at the terms and if it appears the insurer is acting unfairly, consider a formal complaint.

The insurer will then have eight weeks to investigate and once you have a final outcome, you can consider escalating to FOS if you are not satisfied.

Well this thread saved me starting a new one!

I'm with Paymentshield (PMS) for unemployment only cover and have just sent off my 12th claim form and they have paid me for the full year and have been excellent to deal with!

I know the trend on here seems to be trying to claim on mis-sold policies but credit where credit's due. All they required during the year of my claim all was a declaration that i was still on a JSA agreement (even though after 6 months i received no benefit as my wife works and we get no income based JSA). Also, i had to provide evidence of 3 job applications a month which i think you'll agree is not particularly exhaustive!

They also contacted me the other day to see how my job search was coming on and i'm glad they did! I thought that this would be the end of my policy as i have now claimed for the full year and thought that was it but i was mistaken! I am currently now paying approx £36 per month and told them this was quite expensive for cover i may not need again (hopefully never) when i get another full-time job. However, i have scaled back the cover to £10 per month just to get premiums down to a couple of quid. They then told me when/if i get a full-time job in future after 90 days work there i can increase cover again. Wasn't aware you could do this but there you go!

So, in conclusion, based on our experiences i would say that PMS have been a great company to deal with as long as you understand the cover you are taking on and also adhere strictly to the t and c's of the policy.

ps-sorry for jumping in as i only skimmed and read last line of OP. I thought you were raising a query based on getting a policy rather having a problem with an existing one! I hope you get it sorted. However, i would add that my last paragraph of understanding the cover (for example, advising them of any change in circs) and understanding the t and c's is particularly pertinent!

That is good to hear. Paymentshield are not one of the budget price chasers and have a good claims reputation in general. I fear too many of these providers have gone for low cost and claw that back when it comes to dealing with claims.

Indeed dunstonh and i myself at one time was close to switching again but due to a combination of good luck and 'gut-feeling' i stayed with PMS through some fairly hefty premium increases.

My B&C is still with Paymentshield and I had an easy claim with them in 2009 for a lightening strike on our neighbours, which knocked out a lot of the items we had attached to our phone line.

My sister has ASU with Paymentshield and she had no problems with a accident claim in 2005 after an RTA.
